13 WTHRFamily of teen drowning victim offers swimming lessons for kids
INDIANAPOLIS - Wednesday marks the anniversary of the tragic drowning of 13, Tim Bray. Now, a year later, the family of the teenager has found a way to honor his memory. The family offers swimming lessons save the lives of other children in the district of Tim.
A fund has been established to provide scholarships for swimming lessons 40 to a community that is in need.
"I wanted to come up with something that would help prevent it from happening to another parent.If anything I can do to help it not happen to someone else, I am absolutely, "said Abby Bray, Tim's mother, who turned her grief into effect.
The family has received encouragement from Bray of the community and complete strangers. Linda from Znachko he knows your name ministry reached out to Abby Bray, after hearing of the death of his son. Together, they organized swimming lessons for children.
"If we can educate and teach children to swim and be aware of water safety, as would such a dignity and purpose in the death of Tim," said Znachko.
A recent study showed black children aged 5 to 14 have a drowning rate three times that of their white counterparts. Tim mom wants children in the same neighborhood for life-saving lessons, leaving the real legacy of the life of Tim.
"They do not know how to swim, but they leave knowing how to swim with the scholarship with the swimming lessons," said Bray.
Other community commemorated the death of Tim by releasing balloons at Douglass Park. A plaque will also be up to the Douglass Park Pool honor the life of Tim.
