Sally Deskins"Possessions: literary characters and the things they carried" is the theme of (city) Omaha lit Fest 2011 exhibition of literary art, the theme Oct. 14 at the Omaha Public Library. The festival is looking for ideas informed by artists to interpret the literary artifacts - such as accessories, objects, fashions, food, or jewelry of famous literary characters. Examples would be 'blowjob, golden ticket to Willy Wonka, the album High Fidelity, the pills in the valley of the dolls, a brush of Tom Sawyer or the Hogwarts' Sherlock Holmes books.The illustrations are not to be literal or wide. The project is open to artists of all styles and media. Art must be ready to hang on September 30. Artist Wanda Ewing, fresh from his first residence in Buenos Aires, Argentina, working on his next show on the site - Peerless in Midtown. The award-winning artists and many tenured University of Nebraska-Omaha art teacher, is a painter and teacher to join Kim Reid Kuhn Curating in "Les Femmes Folles Present."It's a pop-up exhibition set for July 22 (Full Disclosure: I co-produced this event for my blog the same name). Ewing and Kuhn are producing work in space until the show begins, and bringing in the work of women artists, including Rebecca Herskovitz, Lisa Boumstein-Smalley, Dana Damewood, Jackie Sterba and more. The opening date will include live music by violinist Kaitlyn Filippini and René Gosch Blue Rose, food baked by two birds and libations of Nosh Wine Lounge and upstream.
