Two of the Chica Peeps will speak at the Bethel Library, 189 Greenwood Ave., Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. To register, call 203-794-8756, ext. 4, or email adult@bethellibrary.org.Chica Peeps are coming to the Bethel Library Tuesday. They've previously
been spotted in Brookfield and Bridgewater, among other places, and will be at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library in Monroe on Monday.
The term Chica Peeps makes me first think of newly hatched chicks in springtime, but that's not what these are. These are a group of women bonded by friendship, and they treasure and celebrate their friendship.
They want other women to do the same, and have extended an invitation for people to contribute to a future anthology of stories about female friendships.
Local authors Velya Jancz -Urban and Jeanne Pedane have been appearing at Connecticut libraries to speak about Chica Peeps. On www.chicapeeps.com, they note that the English language doesn't have a word for the type of "sisterhood of strength and support" that they share with their circle of female friends.
Combining the terms two members of the group of friends used to refer to the group, they decided Chica Peeps was the term that would serve this purpose.
More will be revealed at their presentation Tuesday, but in the meantime, you can check out the website www.chicapeeps.com to get a sense of what this is all about.
Although the presentation is free, registration is required by calling 203-794-8756, ext. 4, or by emailing adult@bethellibrary.org.
Don't feel you have a story to share for "Who Are Your Chica Peeps?" You might still want to attend the presentation to glean information on how to nurture your own circle of peeps.
