Olivia Dawson scores hat trick in Gaynor Cup win
THE annual Women FAI Umbro Gaynor Cup tournament for under 16 and under 18 was held at the University of Limerick last weekend and all 14 teams a total took part in the showcase Football, now in its 13th year.
Killarney Celtic Olivia Dawson was one of the stars of the victory of South Munster U-16 Gaynor Cup last weekend UL. Olivia bagged a hat trick in the opening match and made a huge contribution to the victory of the tournament. Mastergeeha of Aoife Doyle played for the Munster U-18 side.
Dave Connell, Women FAI Emerging Talent of the National Coordinator and the Republic of Ireland under-19s coach, explained the context of the elite event.
"The tournament this year took on a different format than previous years, with our eight regional centers Emerging Talent into teams that took part in the tournament," he said.
"The regional squads were together at their respective centers since January, so from that point of view, they will all be very well prepared and used to playing together, allowing for some very entertaining football during the weekend.
"In previous years the tournament also included a section, sub-14. However, this year a separate tournament was held in NUIG Galway the holiday weekend in June A total of 18 centers of the League took part in the tournament, which was a fantastic show for the first year. "
He added: "I want to thank all ISPs development officers, coaches and volunteers outside for their dedication to the development squads over the last two months."
